Bill Blue says she probably got the ticket because she was park- edina Ioadtngzooeandwas- 'nt loading or unloadtog any- thing, ''I stop to checktnwllhmy employees or to drop some- thing off.'' wrote Mrs. Wer- ter. "The area Is marked 'loading zone,' wUh a limit of 20 minutes. Slnce I pay for a business license in the ctty, also pay property taxes to Newport Beach, also per- sonal property taxes and oth- er business taxes, contribute to the employment of 2 peo- ble in Newport Beach and give to many of our schOOls aDd pb.Uanthropic assoc1a- tlons, I feel this Is a pretty nasty way of handUng tbe situation." Mrs. Werter said shealso resented the tickets because "the day I received the first ticket a young girl 1n an old Volkswagen was parked 1n front of me with a car that was unsafe on the streets slnce U had been lD an ac- cident and the front was all bashed in with no headlights whatsoever. "However, since she was young and extremely artnc- tive, she did oot receive a ticket,•· Lt. Blue noted that the meter malds who gi ve out parking tickets are also young and~JtffiUve. "I mor"fft~s wtll do not good," con.c;bUlu Mrs.Wer- ter's letter, "but I get a little weary of caring for the dregs of humanity just be. cau~e 1 am willing to work 8-1/2 hours a day and still try to carry on a business that ls an asset to the area.'' Lt. Blue commented that the meter maids give tickets to cars they find in loading zones regardless of the tax- paying abiUty of the car owners. NAVY FIREMAN recruit Dooald D. Rlcbey, 800 of Ur. THE AMERICAN DREAM Is one or our great Amerlcan dreams going to turn into a fatrytale that can't come true? I'm talking about the Social Security program. When it was first started back in the dismal 1930s, 1t was offered as a ray of hope for the working man looking ahead to old age. At last, we were told, the worker would be able to retire without having to worry too mu ch about starving to death. M1llions of American working men and women tave poured a good chunk or their wages into this thing for a number of years now, believing that they were bulldlng up a nest-egg lor lhelr old age. Well, ltke predatory blue-jays, the politicians and bureaucrats have been stealing the nest-eggs berore they can hatch. We find out now that the Social Security system Is going lo be bankrupt by the early 1980s. Once agalll, we have been lied to. What was billed as the great American retirement dream has turned lnto the great American Rlp-orf. The politicians, or course, want to solve the· problem by raising everybody's taxes ror the umpteenth time to cover up the sorry mismanagement or the Social Security !lind. I have some ideas on this. First, let's round up every bureaucrat who has managed Social Security since lt started and see tr we can find out where the money went. We lock up common thieves. How aboUt incarcerating some of these un-common thieves? Next, we should take money out or the Social Security fund only for people who really need it. A lot ol well-lo-do retired people are drawing almosl $400 a month from Social Security, They need il like they need another Cadillac. I'm not saying these people shoUidn'l get credit lor lhe money they paid Into Social Security over lhe years. Of course, they should. It's theirs. But, rather than drain the Social Security fund , or raise the taxes on the working man, why not give tax credits to anybody who still earns over $Z5,000 a year, and let him take what he would gelln Social Security oil his In- come tax. He would still ·get his money • In a d1tferent way -the money wouldn't come from the Social Security fund, and we wouldn't have to raise the workingman's taxes. Doesn'l this make sense lo you? Maybe thai's why the elbow-benders In Washington haven't thoUgh! ol II. Their ld"' ol lhe American dream Is lo keep getlinJ re-elected year alter year, Let's puncture a hole In lhelr plpedream and do something 1o help aging American workingmen realize their dream. Social Sec:llrlly seems lo be providing seeurlly lor the wrong people -lhe bureau- orals and politicians. Let's aet tbe benellls beck where lhey belong. 41 Forcll P.S. Glad to see tbet Sen.
