house 600 students and 15

any rate the current annual
issue of his California Fruit
and Vegetable Review con-
tains 272 pages in color and
is by far the largest maga-
zine ever produced in the cit-
rus industry. His is Volume
6 and the 5000 copies circu-
lating in the U. S. and Om-
ada, carried some $20,000
.worth of advertising from all
over two continents. Fred's
is the only independent
periodical in that field and
the subsidized magazi nes of
the Fruit Growers Exchange
do not begin to have the
style. initiative and gump-
tion of the Newcomb publi-
cation.

Returning from Europe General Eisenhower threw his
weight behind peacetime military training as a necessacy
measure for the protection of America from possible future
aggression. At the same time he declared that he was not
pessimistic about the chances of maintaining the peace. "If
I didn't have hope for peace," he said, "I wouldn't be here-
! would have jumped out of the plane over the Atlantic." He
pointed out that there is little. if any. reason to fear a war
with Russia, since the Russians are desperately in need o f
peace and would have virtually nothing to gain by war with
us. It is his belief that they are anxious ·lo be our friends.
Having dealt with Soviet military officials during the past
several years General Eisenhower's opinion is worth much
m ore than the long-distance views of American critics who
predict that war with Russia is inevitable.
