Out on a federal construction job off from nowhere (Elko, Ne- vada) Yoves Monrile, a form- er News-Times advertising man, became hungry for a good old mince pie li ke he re- membered his mother used to make. So he wrote his experiences in creating one to his parents. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Petitions to Ask Hospital Comer Traffic Controls The recent death of Mrs. Thyra Lyon of Costa Mesa when she was struck by one car and knocked into another almost directly in front of County hospital, where she was e nroute to visit her bed· ridden husband, resulted Weclnes· day in a concerted move for con· trol of the intersection's traffic. M rs. Lela J . Allison of Sonora. sister o f MrS. Lyon. undertook circulation of petitions calling for installation of traf(ic signals or some other device for controlling the "murderous traffic" of the particular intersection. Upon death of her sister. ~1rs. The Forgotten Man "In all the recent discussions about profits, wages, and the consumer, says an editorial in the San Francisco News, ''the 'forgotten man' seems to be t he stockholder." And the editorial continues, "Since what he has saved and has put into investment represents his hllman as well as his property rights, he shotild be entitled at least to a men- tion. And just because he is a stockholder doesn't mean h is a rich so-and-so. He, or she, could even be, and very fre- quently is, an underpaid school teacher. or a widow or an or- phan or member of a la bor union." ' The point is well taken. We're not going to have a healthy national ecqnomy if any one group is made to suffer for the benefit of some other group. And right now the stockholder is the oni: who is getting it in the neck. The trouble is that most stockholders are pictured (by those who aren't stockholders) as wealthy indivi~_a)s who don't know what to do with their millions. There· are some wealthy stockholders, of course, but the majority of them are in the middle-income bracket and not a few are in the low- income group. If the stockholder continues to be the forgotten man he will become increasingly unwilling to risk his savings in any enterprise. This would have a depressing effect on our na- tional economy-fewer businesses and fewer jobs. And that's the very thing which everybody does Nar want.
