CJOUSTMAS. We all know
the meahlng of Ouistrnas,
but many people and many
nations have by-passed its
practice. The P r i n c e of
Peace, were he to return af-
ter nearly 2,000 years, would
find turmoil, greed, distruc-
tion and staivation. Tha t the
people of these United States
are kindly -" sympathetic
is evidenced by the Freedom
Train, relief to the Navajos
and open hearts to almost
every charitable appeal. But
the men in power, in control
of World leadership seem to
work on a different principle
-most · of them put gold
above service. politics over
common sense. refusal to
walk with the Man of Galilee.
It is true Oiristmas softens
their hearts for a · time, but
the morrow promptly brings
a return to despotism and
greed
But enough of the fore-
going and a -return to New-
port Harbor and its absorb-
ing interest in the Yuletide.
For ooe thing a survey of the
district reveals many gay,
decorative effects. Balboa Is-
land has its holiday street
lights and colors in gay
charm; Newport Beach fire
lads have a huge tree a top
their fire hall on West Cen-
tral a venue, while the pier
building has its usual Christ-
mas scene; Miracle Mile has
its Christmas cross; t h e

bay, under the guidance of

pealing; Costa Mesa has its
