fe1tival, the three-day event held at Fashion

crab, pastas stuffed with creamy centers and
chowdcn poured Into bowls made of
sourdough bread.
Patrons could choose from shrimp saunpi,

seniors hoofed their way
around the dance floor at
the Costa Mesa Senior Center, putting
the polish on dances with names like
Tennessee Twister and the Montan11.
It's the latest craze.
"Country and western dancing is
very popular now;• says senior center
activity coordinator Lorie Smith.
"They go out to the country and
western clubs and they can dance with
the younger people because they all do
the same steps."
Two men arc \\Caring bolo 11es and

shirt and jeans. But for most or the
seniors, it's not a dress rehear al, just
a way to have some fun every Thurs·
day afternoon from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
"Reload," shouts Chnmbcrlain as
the dancers begin another d:rnce. ''Hip
bumps, hjp bumps," he calls out as the
seniors rock their hips and kick up
their heels.
"h's a combination of fun people,
fun music and exercise," ~ys Rita
Kiester, 71, who goes to commu nity
square dances with her husband Bill.
"There's a square donce every night of
the week and on Sunday afternoon if
you want to go. I would like to see the
young people get into it again."

day's Orange Co!J~ty Championships at Edison High.
Newport, ranked second in Orange County (behind you
know who), trounced third-ranked Laguna Beach, lS-7, 1S·9,
in the title ma1ch, after the Artists ended the vaunted Sea
Kings' 38-match winning streak wi1h a 16-14, 15-13 semifinal
upset.
"Tttis is a great win for us," said Glenn, whose team swept
visitina Laguna in a non-league meeting Thursday night. "We
caught them in their first match of the season, .then got them
today right after an emotional win over Corona. But to be
considered the top team, in Orange Cotanty means nothing
riaht 'n~e want to be No. 1 at the end of the season!'
Junior AU-American Misty May earned tournament MVP
honon for the Sailon, peppering a match·hi&h 18 kills, while
junior All-CIF middle blocker Melissa Schutz had eight kills

"We played really well our last two malchcs (the Tars
breezed past Huntington Beach, 15·3, 15·3, in the se mifinal),
but we struggled al times today.'' Glenn explained. "But when
we're not playing well, Misty is the kind of player 1h:it can
