Thiny years ago, her husband Angelo used pieces of wh ite cardboard from old rcfrigerato~ boxes to construct the rhree-dimensionaJ tree. It was all the fa mily of four living in Los Angeles could affo rd at lhe time. Since then, the Radoumjscs' children have grown and the couple has beat the poverty that reigned in t he early )Cars. Still, they refuse to replace the wo rn but sturdy fixture with a live Christmas tree. "It became a part of us." said Rickie Radoumis, 72, who now lives with her retired husband in College Park. "There was Jove behind that tree. Angelo didn't ~ want rus girls to be d isappointed ... Without money for presen ts or decorations. Christmas in 1958 was spent adorning the tree with gold-painted walnut shells, popcorn strings and homemade cookies. In late r years.
