J appla uded the-recent mO\le by the Parks and Recreation Commission to remove the basketball backboards. Finally, someone is considering the conce rns of the people who live in the neighborhood and who arc trying to stress family values. I read v.•ith in1ercs1 the article in the Daily Pilot on Dec. 27 regarding the pcl ition the two Estancia H igh School basketball players have presented and one o f their mo ther's statcn1en1s lhat she wanted them 10 play in a park that was safe_ It would be of interest to kn~ where the 500 signa1u res on the petition came from. as very few, if a ny of them, wo uld have come from residents living near the park. Professional journalism would d ictate that the both public school administrators a nd can sympathize wilh the girls and the mother when she says she wants her cbugh1cr lo have a safe place 10 baskc1ball tha1 is within bicycle-riding distance. There are plenty or outdoor basketball coorts available fo r use a1 E.it~ncia High School.
