It's a con job: but occasionally the lady bestows a fortune on one or her subjects to make it look easy fo r the rest of her benighted Oock. They saved it. Thrift has an interesting habit or leap·frogging generations. When one hoards, the nexl splurges. The Baby Busters. now in !heir 20s, give evidence of being as conscrvacivc and thrifty as their grandparents. having watched their high·living parents blow their budgets. This time, the mother of four grown children is taking on a new post as head of the Costa Mesa Senior Center. She begins her new job today. Besides orchestr:Jting the everyday operations o,f the city's ycar·and-a-half-0ld senior center, the board of directors is counting on her to bolster funding to make the center sclf·suppbrting. THI IDITOU "I've always been an editor of something or olher," explains Jane, whose work has been published In the Saturday Evening Post. She and her husband write four different newsletters. As a team, she docs most of the writing and editing w~ile he types, copy edits and writes. Together they keep up the membership lists and do all the labeling and mailing. l)ieir newsletters include: Newport-Mesa Friends of the Library, ·the California Retired Teachers Associatton, the Costa Mesa Historical Sociel)' Newsletter and American Associations Retired Persons, where Dave was president fo r two years and Jane currently serves as president.
