Billed by organizers as a prime way for local businesses to promote their products and services, the expo drew some 100 area businesses, which set up booths in Fashion Island to peddle their wares. The event was held outside at Fashion Island for the first time, having outgrown its previous indoor venues. Evcrythina from women's health and Greek pastries to fiscal 1 consultants and stun guns were fe atured. Visitors could enjoy a free back rub or "a health-oriented Chinese food experience" orrered by Costa Mesa's Wok Spirit restaurant. The event was sponsored by the Newport Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce and the Daily Pilot. "It's a chance to showcase our chambc'r' members and their businesses," said event chairwoman Barbara de Boom. "People find out that they have these services available, that thin~ are aoing on risht in their backyard." The exp& hell arown substantially over the years in both the numbers or participants and visitors. Roughly 1,000 visitors were anticipated this year. Businesses keep coming back for the exposure and community . involvement, organizers said. "Having it outside and in a public place like this has made it for everyone," snid Dr. Carol le Blanc, chiropractor and nine·yeur expo veteran.
