By Tlna Borgatta, Daily Pilot COSTA ~SA -It's been eight months since the ownetl of Piece- makers Country Store turned away county health inspectors from their shop and fired off a hateful letter laced with profani- ties and threats, but officials say they haven't forgotten. Officials from \he county's Department of Environmental Health will be meeting in coming weeks to determine bow best to handle the case. "We can't just walk away from the situation vijien someone does- · n't want us to inspect their busi- ness," said Jim H uston, the department's assistant director. "We enforce state laws here - state laws that apply to all food establishments in Orange County. r ~ut before inspectors pay another visit to the shop, which is ~ operated by what some consider a religious fringe group, the depart- ment must figure out a game plan. And, there ls nothing that exempts Piecemakers from these laws.• Huston said the store's owners Marie Kolasinski and Anne Sorensen are current with their health services fees, which he believes shows some recognition of the agency's role in government. "It recognites that we are here, and we are obligated to inspect that site,• be said. "The cost for these inspections are paid for by the health services fees. Yolunteers receive training from professional case workers and are then matched with a fami- ly struggling with issues of child abuse. The vOlunteer becomes a support system for the at-risk fam- ily, going into the hOme, and teach- ing healthy, nurturing parenting.
