And if you're like my fami- ly, you'll probably have a soft- ball game in. the late after:- noon as the sun starts to fall and the temperature cools. And if you're like my f am.i- ly, you'll choose up sides for that game. Selecting from a large field of players, you'll first choose those family members and friends yo1;1 know -especially those who can shag a'fiy or blast a ball over the fence. But ultimately, there'll be some players left who you · don't know. Some friend of a friend who was invited to-the party. And somebody will lean over m your ear and say, "choose Sally, she's a good player." So you do. You choose Sal-. ly, even though you have no idea how Sauy·js going to play. Still, you do it as a favor. And low and behold Sally turns out to be dynamite -the steal of the draft. She can hit, she can throw, she can do it all -the MVP. tony dodero of war after sh e was urged to submit her name for a spot on the Newport Beach library board. I'm not going to tell you her name sh ' enough unwanted publicity, "my 15 seconds of infamy," as she p~t it. Oh well, she chalked !t up to lack of experience and thought that was the end of it. Not quite. . Unbeknownst to Sally there was political Qlachina- tions taking place that were out of her control. The WQman -a big-time libr donor -who had sub- mitted S~y·s name, -whom Sally says she knows only casually, questioned publicly why Sally had not even been interviewed. Advertorial Auto..,F-acts .. by Paul Frech SERVICE & REPAIR GERMAN• SWEDISH JAPANESE AUTOMOBILES CONDENSED READING The advent of warm weather should prompt a trial run of your car's air conditioner to assure that It will work properly when hot weather strikes. If it is noticed that the system is not cooling property, a simple fix may remedy the problem. It may be that the condenser is clogged-with leaves, bugs. or road debris to the point that its ability to cool the refrigerant is seriously com- promised. The condenser works m a manner similar to the car's radiator in that-it removes heat from the refrigerant: The resutt of a dirty condenser 1s lower cooling capacity, higher pressure inside the air conditioner, and greater in front of the radiator and clean it with compressed air or pressur- ized water. If problems persist. they are likely caused by something that can only be diagnosed and corrected by a trained automobile technician . .HINT: Run the air conditioner for a few minutes from time to time to help ensure the maximum life of the seals. SYNTHETIC OIL Car owners who appreciate the importance of frequent and regular oil changes may wonder what further advantage can ~ gained by using synthetic oil. Unlike conventional motor oils which are refined from crude oil, synthetic oils are developed chemically, making them costlier to produce. However. they also provide a wider performance envelope with a number of significant advan- tages in several areas. For one. synthetic olls flow well at low temperatures. making them better for winter use. They also afford exceptional thermal stability, making them good choices for high-load, high-heat summer conditions. They are less volatile (Which can translate to reduced oil consumption) and more forgiving of abuse and less susceptible to the harmful effects of oxidation. While synthetic base stock may hold up longer. allowing longer lntel'Vala between od crumg.s is discouraged because the normal buildup of internal deposits goes on and breakdown of addlttVes c:ontinuel to oocur.
