Rosa Chnspens, the doting grandmother who held 3-month-old Caythn, relaxed on the sofa while two or her daugh· ters prepared the hearty meal. Because Chns· pens has 20 or more Thanksgiving dinners on her cooking resume, her only chore·this time was making dip. "She was alwavs the helper," Chnspen~ "aid of Linda. "She was always around the kitchen wanting to do more. Now look what she has." . . This year l am also· thanklul I had the opportunity to pd.rtio- pate and complete the CaWom1a AIDS Ride 5, a 600-nule bike trek from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It was more than a bike ride. Smee thdt tune, Gordon moved out and I was divorced out, but the new wall stands as a pleasant renunder that the commuruty is now safe and secure Some of that old charm moved out as well as the once boating enclave, that housed the likes or manne arclutect Bill Lapworth, producer Bill Cagney, the Duke and others, has changed from tiny beach houses to mega-monoliths. In any event, Bayshores has a tremendous boating history, retarned some charm and is still home to sailors Dennis and Debbie Dorgan, Marshall dnd Ten »Duffy• Duffield, Carol Mack, Bob and Mary Longpre and several others of water toy notoriety. Gordon is a superior sailor and an active member of the ·Yachtsman Lunch Club,• a group of Newport's sailing finest that meet every Wed.nesday for lunch at the Newport Harbor · Yacht Club Gordon has asked that I address these men of the sea next Wednesday and speak on what it means to write a boating column m our conunuruty I thought I should attend one of these luncheons pnor to my speech and get a handle on what these luncheons were au about.
