His conbibutions as a starter
helped the Sailors win 22 games
m 1996-97, a school record for
back-to-back productivity and he
was a first-team All-CIF Division
V pick, an Orange County

He also capped a three-year
varsity soccer career
with a first-team All-Sea
View League selection

second-team all-league
campaign as a junior.
He helped the Tars win
their first league title in

fall of '98 at Cal Poly at

But the deasion by the USTA to reject
Newport Beech's bid to host the Fed <;up
semifinals (slated for July 2"·25) is a dear
mdicabon of the game"s inability to sustain
fan and sponsorship appeal during the sum-"
mer months in one of the largest (and most
tennis-mmdedJ markets in the country -
Southern Calilorrua. .
