party was taken up by about 30 of
Mary's relatives from across
Southern Calilomiu.
Her sister, father and &unt also
flew in for the occasion from P1tts·
burgh, Pa. The rest of the group
was madE\ up of the Downcys•
neighbors and Mary's m-workers
from the Orange County l IC'alth
Cdre Center.
Before the Downey's knew it
they had not only met but

Daily Pilot and t he Institute for International
Sport. Students may address any aspect of
ethics and sportsmanship in society or
share a personal reflection of an
experience with exemplary (or poor)
sportsmanship.
The contest is held in conjunction with
the ninth annual National Sportsmanship
Day (NSD) "Dare to Play fair" program,
which fosters appreciation of the critical
role of fair play in athletics and society.
It will be celebrated in over 10,000
schools in all 50 states and over 100
countries on March 2. Visit

Why: To offer Costa Mesa, Corora del
Mar and Newport Beach students the
opportunity to share their thoughts and
