Threat defuses itself when source ' of ticking turns out to be small clock in a locker

Alarmed administrators evacuated a building at
Newpo{t Harbor High School on Tuesday when they
feared a beeping noise they hear& a locker was a
bomb.
When the O range C ounty Sheriff's Department
bomb squad opened the locker, they found a small
alarm clock.
"We heard a beepmg noise gol.Ilg off m the locker,
and we're checking to be sale,• said Lee Gaeta. the
school's assistant prinOQal, adding that he almost
opened the locker with wue cutters before thinking
better of it.
Students beard the beeping and notified their
teacher, Gaeta said, who in tum alerted his office.
When he and the Newport Beach police officer on
campus could not be sure that it w as simply a cellular
phone or pager, as they suspected, the bomb squad
was called in.
The action dldn't disrupt classes much.
"We evacuated the building,· Gaeta said. •It was
the very end or the school day anyway.•

girds for some government

there is a suspect to be
rounded up, that there is
blame to be ldld. Even were
that true, and I don't buy it,
the solution she's seek.mg

Mernheld is appealing
to the good people of
Newport-Mesa to become
part of the children's edu-
cation, and thus their
future. No complaints. No
investigations. Just d
mobilization of good-heart-

The Harmonia Baroque Players presents this warm
ambiance for many such events. The ensemble Is Orange
County's only professional baroque chamber music group.
Besides playing at weddings, the ensemble presents an
annual concert series in Newport Beach. Pasadena and
Hermosa ..,.Beach. Musicians of the group can also be )'leard
live at various Bordel's Books and Music stores.
The Harmonia Baroque Players include a vocalist and
musicians who play the vlohn, viola, cello, flute, recorder.
oboe, lute. guitar, harp and harpsichord. The ensemble 1s
extremely versatile. They can provide a soloist (vocal or
mstrumentalist), or perform as a duet, trio, quartet or
quintet in many instrumental combinations.
"One of their unique features 1s that we offer a free
