The SSJ0,000 the mobile homes generate in revenue accounts for nearly all of the total revenue from the 10-acre site between 15th and 18th streets along Balboa Boulevard How- ever, that bas been eclipsed by the millions in estimated annual revenue offered by developers proposing any- thing from boutique hotels to d hve· star spa resort. As Belle, the ingenue of •Beauty and the Beast,• Egan won critical acclaim. "I have friends who are Sally.• The psychologically nuanced approach Egan takes to the role ls one encouraged by the director of "Cabaret," Sam Mendes, who also directed the film" American Beauty.• Mendes wants every character in "Cabaret" to have a name and a back-story, Egan said. Joseph Boo OAll.Y PILOT CORONA DEL MAR -lt was simple for Costa Mesa High 's girls soccer team. Beat Corona del Mar and go to the CIF Southern Section Divi- sion fV playoffs. Lose, and the Mustangs are out., Instead, Costa Mesa played Pacific Coast League cham- pion CdM to a scoreless tie in a soggy field Thursday at CdM. Meanwhile at Estancia, University beat the Eagles, 2- 1 in injury time to tie Mesa for third place in the PCL With the 1Tojans having the head-to-head record at 1-0-1, Uni advances to the CJF playoffs, by a few seconds over Mesa. It wasn't a lack of effort that kept Costa Mesa (8-3-9, 2-2-4 in league) from making the playoffs. The Mustangs played gutsy defense that JUSt stifled CdM's powerful offense. "Both teams played well,• r. .... , ... . . t ... ~ -.. . . . . -· .. .. . ,. : . "' Hith school girls SuCCER Costa Mesa Coach Dan Johnston 8ld. •our kids did what we had to do. We had itome opporturuties we didn't t.ako advantage of, and CdM had some opportunities they didn't take advantage of." The Sea Kings (15-4-4, 6-0-2) did not let a fired up Mesa squad overwhelm them. rn fact, CdM had more scoring chances than the Mustangs with fiv~ ~orner kicks in the first half. But Mesa's defense, led by Katie Roche, Marissa Dinsdale and goalie Margaret Landeros, cleared balls out and refused any good sbQts. "We came out and played well,• CdM coach Ron Evans s8ld. "But they have a good defense. They don't glVe up a Jot o( godls." CdM's defense was pretty good too. Any Mesa counters seem to be magnetlcally atltacted lo CdM fullback Molly O'Meara. who prompt· ly restarted the Sea Kings' ~llack., The Sea Kings almost got a gOdl but Kate Simon's shot just went wide. Cd.M also got a near-open hot, but Mesa'5 Paride Loera 'tuffed Allison Brawner On the oth- er side, CdM goalie Britta Vogele came out to stop a charging Julie Kroening. It wu the th1td time Vogele came out to stop a Mustang attack., CdM wraps up an undefeated league schedule and start the playoffs next Saturday aftl?r a bye week, against an opponent to be detennined. •we didn't drop the game, and that's good,"Evans saJd. "Our girls wanted the unde- fea~ed record " Irony was very cruel for Mesa in the fonn of injury time. ln their. first game, the Mustangs missed a be with the Sea Kings by a few sec- onds, when O'Meara scored a controversial goaJ in added time. On Thursday, Uni scored in added time against Estancia to advance to the playoffs. ~nus was practically the same game as the last one," Johnston said of his 0-0 tie.
