Mrs. d ' Albert clearly went the ex~a mile for her students, and l was glad that she was thanked for her dedication and com- m1tment. On my way home from the retire- ~nt tea, I stopped at the market. While unJoadmg my groceries, I heard a sweet voice behind me say, ·Mommy, mommy, Cdfl I get candy and flowers for my teacher for Valentine's Day7 I know she'd love 1t and J love her.• I turned and srruled at the mother with two little girls. As I left, I overheard one girl say, ·What dld she mean by our teachers being gifts? I thought we were supposed to buy them gifts.· I dldn't hear the answer, but I knew what I meant. Great teachers are a gt.ft. Great teachers deserve gifts, not just tangi- ble ones, but gifts of our time, prayers, encouragement and affirmation.
