Young's letter about trustee Wendy Leece's attempt to add mtelbgent design to school curricu· lum {Mailbag, Jan. 29). It lS quit~ obvtou:s that Young has never done any enous study on intelligent design before and 1s extremely biased. He is using arcular ullnk:mg in trymg to defeat Leece. He states that there IS no emplncal evidence for intelligent design. Well, how does he know? Evolution reqwres that llie comes from nonllfe and lizards turned into b11ds. Where is the ·emplncal eV1dence· for that? There 1s none. ln my study of intelligent design. I have found that intelligent .des1gn lS often far more sensible than what they are teaclung us m school (only evolution). Furthennore. it would not be a • corrupuon of knowledge· to put intelligence design in textbooks. To have only one View in the text· books. when the other is just as wor· thy, Ls ignorance. There lS, and has been ince the 1800s, when Darwm first questioned ,., God's existence, a strong soenb.hc representabon of God's existence. ln fact, when I was domg some bbrary ' research for children's Egyptian art studies, I ran across a book pub· llshed in the 1920s explauung that the Babylonian Gardens were Jocat· ed by a soenbSt·dnthropologast who was a devout Chnsban. He used only the Bible to locate them. One may recall these gardens as being one of the Seven Wonders of the world. This may not seem llke much to modem-day Chnsbans, but et this time Darwm had completely debunked the Bable and all its con· tent very pubbcly and emphatica.Uy. He called at a fairy tale book. The tory ol this expedition and.the d.illi· culty maneuverlng finds across a desert by camel are amaz.l.ng. I wish I remembered the name of it.
