The authority bu been study· ing 13 options and bas nar- rowed them down to three. Those three were unveiled Wednesday at an open house in Costa Mesa. Wh.Ue the options mosuy seek to alleviate rush· hour congestion, they will also improve traffic throughout the day because any of the three so- lutions will provide more capac- ity than today, said Kurt Brotcke, a manager of corridor studies for the authoriry. TOWN Continued from M lbe cballe~e la trying to bal· ance freeway expanslon against having to acquire land and build.inp, thus intruding on neighboring property, Brotcke said. •For this concepruaJ study, possible impacts to neighbor· hoods were greatly reduced by rea.lignlng the freeway to one aide and widening on that side," Brotcke said. One alternative would add a lane in each direction north of Brookhwst Street to the Sarffia· briel Freeway and auxiliary lanes in places where they can be added without having to ac- quire major property. Auxiliary lanes run between on and off ramps that ease the flow of traf. Be. It's estimated to COSI ssoo million.
